Joe Black Barbershop Now Offering Manicures and Pedicures for Men
According to a recent study, women are more attracted to men who take pride in how they look beyond a basic haircut with trimmed, clean and buffed hands and toenails, and thanks to Pearland, Texas-based Joe Black Barbershop, men are now able to receive a top-of-the-line haircut plus a manicure and pedicure at the same time.
“It’s called the Man Cave,” said Tearny Brown, lead cosmetologist at Joe Black Barbershop.
Brown went on to explain that her husband, John “Joe Black” Brown, owner of Joe Black Barbershop is the person who came up with the idea of offering manicures and pedicures for men. The barbershop’s slogan is “It’s not just a haircut” and according to Brown, adding the manicure and pedicure services is a reflection of the company’s belief that the customer experience and available services at Joe Black Barbershop go beyond a basic haircut.
“I was in the bathroom one day and my husband saw how detailed I am with my own hands and feet and he suggested that I do the same for men who come into the barbershop,” Brown recalled. “The Man Cave introduces men to grooming themselves beyond the haircut and once they get it done, they feel really good about themselves. Most men are hesitant at first, but getting it done is like a completion of the haircut once their hands and feet are done.”
The launching of Joe Black Barbershop’s Man Cave could prove to have perfect timing.
According to statistics, men’s grooming has seen a boom of over 300 percent in the last 10 years with men’s beauty and grooming products more popular than ever. This increase in sales shows that the modern male now understands the importance of taking care of one’s appearance and improving their hygiene.
The great thing about Joe Black Barbershop’s Man Cave, representatives say, is that it’s situated in a private area of the barbershop so men are not out in the open and are in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.
It’s a spa manicure and pedicure,” Brown stressed, before adding, “I cut the cuticles, I cut and clean the nails, exfoliate the skin, and provide a tissue massage.”
Brown noted that the barbershop’s manicure and pedicure services are also great for health purposes.
“A pedicure is good because it releases toxins from the body,” Brown said. “It also helps people with diabetes. It’s very important for diabetics to keep their toenails trimmed. In addition, as you age and are walking on your feet, ingrown toenails can occur. And for men who wear steel toe boots, their feet need oxygen and massaging for blood stimulation. These services also take care of funguses and discoloration of men’s toenails, so it’s very important to get a pedicure as well as a manicure.”
As to how the typical woman feels about her man receiving a pedicure, manicure or both, Brown said, “a lady would have to be crazy to not appreciate a well-manicured man. I think that a man should be just as well-groomed as his woman. It’s very important, but most of all, it promotes cleanliness.”
The cost for a pedicure ranges from $35-$50 depending on the work that’s needed. Manicures are $25. Men have three ways to book the services, either by login on to the Joe Black Barbershop website; Facebook or Instagram.
